Schmidt, Garden and Martin, architects, Chicago (1898-1922) | Lake Forest College Archives and Special Collections

Name: Schmidt, Garden and Martin, architects, Chicago (1898-1922)

Historical Note: The firm was among the later adherents to the first Chicago School of Architecture, Garden being the lead designer.  Garden had worked also for Frank Lloyd Wright and Howard Van Doren Shaw, as well as Boston-based Shepley Rutan and Coolidge, who also had a Chicago office.  The Shepley firm grew out of Richardson's office in the 1880s, where some of the Shingle Style had developed.  Garden was a versatile draftsman, proficient in classical and also Prairie and Chicago School modes.
