Historical Note:

Virginia Stewart, Elmhurst, IL, is one of the leading public historians in the Chicago region and an experienced archivist and professor of History in higher education.  An elmhurst resident since 1953, she has her B.A. from Knox College, an M.A. from Purdue, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.  She has taught at Northwestern, Dominican University (River Forest, IL), the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and at Lake Forest College. 

She was the first professional director of the Elmhurst Historical Society, a benchmark in the region, and also was executive director of the Glessner House Museum, Chicago.  She also served as Assistant Manuscript Librarian, University of Illinois At Chicago. 

She is the author, too, of Visionary: An Elmhurst Retrospective, published by the Elmhurst Historical Society, 2006 (196 pp.).
