Pochna, John | Lake Forest College Archives and Special Collections

Name: Pochna, John

Historical Note:

This is a manually-typed report or paper, an original, based in large part on a 1973 interview with Sir Albert M. Margai in London, by John Pochna.  Margai had been the second prime minister of Sierra Leone, 1964-67, brother of the first prime minister of the country, and father of another politician in the country, Charles Margai.

The author of this report probably i John Pochna (d. May 1993), an advisor on oil matters to J. Paul Getty and others.  The report assesses Albert M. Margai as as a potential future detabilizer of the government in Sierra Leone, with the conclusion that if there is an upheaval it will not be from Albert Margai.  Thus, this report from Chris Mojekwu's files when he passed away in the early 1980s can be attributed to John Pochna, the oil and gas advisor to investors.  Some speculative oil and gas exploration went on early in the country's history, though it has only been in the last few years that that there have been discoveries of significant undersea off-shore reserves (see: http://mergersandacquisitionreviewcom.blogspot.com/2011/06/sierra-leone-war-poverty-and-oil.html , consulted Feb. 22, 2013).
