Historical Note:

Stan Kistler, a professinal photographer and photofhinisher, was born in 1930, grew up in San Diego and Pasadena, CA, and lives in Grass Valley, CA.  He began photographing trains in the early 1940s, with one of his photographic prints in this group of eight given to Lake Forest College being dated November 9, 1946 (Santa Fe Express 4-8-2 No. 3730 in East Pasadena, CA).

Recipient of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society's award for photograph y in 1996, his work was featured in the Spring 2000 issue of Classic Trains.  In 2011 Kstler was a presenter at the annual Centger for Railroad Photography & Art Photography Conference, Lake Forest College, as well as an exhibitor of prints there and part of the Prints sale program for that conference.  This is the third such contribution in a series, following ones from Jeff Brouws of his prints of Jim Shauhnessy and Frank Barry work.  The biography of Stan Kistler on the Center's website, used for this note, is by Steve VanDenburgh.
