Historical Note:

Frederick Cornelius Leonard Van Steederen, 1864-1951, was professor of Romance Languages, Lake Forest College, beginning in 1906 and into the 1930s.  he wrote on the 18th C. Italian playright  Goldoni, with a book in 1919, the last faculty scholarly book known to this writer until Gordon Milne's 1856 biography of Curtis.  He also contributed the extensive bibliography for Hobart Chatfield-Taylor's 1908 biography of Goldoni and he produced in the early 1930s a pamphlet, Cleopatra's Nose and Modern Externality, based on.a  talk to the local University Club, a meansure of that group's sophistication then. 

His daugherJoyce Hadley '28 married Albert D. Williams and the couple's daughter was Deborah MacKenzie, a 1970s alum as well; both mother and daughter were members of the Lake Forest Garden Club.
